bertha coolidge/brad thompson, ornette tribute

'twas the day of great bassplayers at the market yesterday. ran into both aden bubeck and paul unger while i was checkin'.

aden, back in town for a few days taking a break from the road and miranda lambert's band, sez that bertha coolidge be's playing a show (with brad thompson, in whose undulating band he, rich stitzel, and joey carter first performed together) at ovation on monday, march 26th. sounds like a good excuse to go chow down on chef keith hicks' awe-inspahring chicken 'n' waffles.

paul, he of fort worth symphony / flipside trio / miles davis tribute fame, says that he and flipside drummer dennis durick are definitely down to do a full-on evening of ornettitude with saxman dave williams if an appropriate venue can be found. i suggested 6th street live, where dave karnes and the erstwhile black dog jazz crew have been doing good business the past few sunday nights. film, as they say, at 11.

yo yo! rich stitzel here. thanks for all of your kind words over the...years?!? is that possible? it seems like only yeserday i was riding my bike through the turmoil of the great tornado aftermath.

things have been great lately. i was on tour with aden last fall subbing for her drummer on the dierks bentley tour which was really cool. very awesome to play arenas with my brother in groove - aden bubeck. we've been playing together since 1992.

i will be in town from my new home of chicago/new york this coming weekend and really look forward to the double reunion show of bertha coolidge, and then brad thompson.

bertha was formed in 2001 and took a quick foothold on the scene partly from the success of the debut release from caravan of dreams (the last recording to ever happen there - r.i.p.). an album that suprisingly won album of the year in the fweekly's in 2002. that group is the amazing paul metzger, the incomporable joey carter, aden, and myself.

brad, aden & i started the undulating band as a trio in 1994. and played pretty heavily around the country until about 1999 when aden went full time with johnny reno, and eventually i moved to chi-town. brad has a new band of really great players, but on monday march 26th, his new band is allowing us to come in and play with him. all of bertha (brad's interim band in 2000-2001) will be backing brad.
